| Description: |
The CNC Programmer certificate is the final step to the highest paid job in the metalworking shop. The machinist who completes all the manual mill and lathe work will be able to program the machines to automatically complete the work to exacting tolerances. This certification course is 90 hours in length and earns 6 Vincennes University Credits. This course is 50% hands-on and 50% book work. The significance of the programming language is emphasized and drilled in so that the student learns each aspect of programming to be certain that he does not make mistakes. Each project that is introduced in the manual machining classes are completed in the CNC class. It is very important that the student be able to relate the two skills and be able to transfer the skills learned on the mill and lathe to the CNC programming world. We use g-code and conversational programming methods with the computers to demonstrate the efficiencies of each.
